Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the Skill Development Corporation scam. The CID arrested Naidu in Nandyal, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said on Saturday.
Naidu has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the Vijayawada ACB court. The court further reserved an order on the plea seeking house arrest of the TDP chief. Meanwhile, Naidu’s party called for a bandh in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

He reached the jail after a nearly 200-km journey to Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district from Vijayawada. “Chandrababu Naidu went in the prison around 1:20 am," East Godavari district Superintendent of Police P Jagadish.

The Vijayawada ACB court granted Naidu the facility of home-cooked food, medication and a special room among other things.
The 73-year-old former chief minister has been provided with a separate accommodation inside the jail in view of the purported threat to his life. He is a Z-plus category security protectee. Naidu’s son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh trailed his father to the prison gates and waited outside for some time before leaving.

Kalyan also accused the ruling YSR Congress Party of resorting to “anti-social activities” in Andhra Pradesh. He alleged that the YSRCP government is “harassing" the opposition parties. Kalyan urged the JSP workers to participate “peacefully" in the bandh.

Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party has called for Andhra bandh today in protest against the arrest of the former chief minister.
“The Telugu Desam Party has called for a statewide bandh tomorrow, Monday (September 11) in protest against the illegal arrest of Nara Chandrababu Naidu, atrocities on the party cadre, and vengeful politics," a press release from the party said. A local court in Vijayawada remanded Chandrababu Naidu in judicial custody for 14 days in an alleged multi-crore corruption scam on Sunday.

Vijayawada ACB court on Sunday sent Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the alleged skill development scam. The court further reserved an order on the plea seeking house arrest of the TDP chief.
The order on house arrest will be pronounced by the ACB court tomorrow. A judge had earlier dismissed Naidu’s bail plea calling the non-bailable section as untenable.

The Crime Investigation Department which arrested TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu in the skill development corporation scam case has said the former Chief Minister was non-cooperative during questioning and replied vaguely saying he did not remember certain issues.
“He was asked questions based on the note files, which form part of the evidence in this case diary. But to all the questions he was non-cooperative and replied vaguely that he could not recollect the facts. In this regard, the report was drafted in the presence of the mediators and duly attested by him," the report said.

This is the first time that the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has been arrested on corruption charges in his political career spanning over 40 years.
Analysts said the development could leave a dent on the clean image of the party projected by his supporters.
Naidu was arrested in a pre-dawn operation on Saturday at Nandyal for his alleged role in a multi-crore Skill Development Corporation scam, which involved officers knocking on the door of the caravan in which he was sleeping.
