Preamble:

Endeavour of Basantapur Education Society towards imparting quality education in the rural area, to hold high the ever-emitting light to eradicate the darkness of illiteracy, was rather a challenging task in 1996. At that time there was not even a Primary School in the remote village named Basantapur in the Block Dumkal of Murshidabad. But Dr. Nazrul Islam, the son of the soil, dreamt otherwise. He, unlike other high officials, made regular contact with his native village and formed an NGO named Basantapur Education Society. The Society established a Primary School in the village in 1996. It was a historic landmark. Those, who thought that Dr. Nazrul Islam did enough for his native village and he would remain content after that, had something more to learn. They were overwhelmed when the Degree College was established in 1999 with Arts, Science & Commerce simultaneously with the help of local education loving people. The next year Short Term Vocational Training (STVT) Centre under the Directorate of Technical Education & Training, Government of West Bengal, was launched by the society and a bunch of equipped technical hands are coming out each year from this institute. The society did not stop there. They felt the need of establishing an Engineering and a Medical College. With this end in view they procured adequate areas of land. The Degree Engineering College started its functioning in 2001 with five streams i.e. CSE, ECE, EIE, IT & BCA. One new stream BBA has been added in the session 2002-2003. A Polytechnic with CST, ETE, InsT, and EE has started functioning from 2002. The Medical College will also be established soon. 75 bighas of land have been procured for the purpose and the Calcutta University has already issued consent of affiliation certificate in this regard.
The need of an integrated high quality School (from Nursery to Higher Secondary) had been badly felt by the people of the locality. Though there are a few Schools and Madrasahs of different level in the adjacent area, scope of development in respect of quality scientific modern teaching of this total integrated level in a single school is always there in this area. Demand for Computer Education as well as coaching of HS Science students for JEE (Medical & Engineering), IIT, AIIMS etc. is being felt very acutely. Besides the evil effect of private tuition should be countered giving proper direction to the students with scientific approach of modern education with adequate teacher students ratio. That's why an integrated multipurpose co-educational Higher Secondary School (Nursery to Higher Secondary), named MODEL SCHOOL, has been opened from 2002-2003 academic session. The society also established a Model Primary Teacher's Training Institute (PTTI) from 2003-2004.

Admission Procedure :

Last year students were admitted in class V VI & XI science only. This year the students of classes V, VI, VII & VIII will get admission through a test conducted by the school authority as usual. The students of class XI(sc) will get admission on the basis of their results of the Madhyamik Examination. And in the Nursery to Primary section the students are admitted directly. The application form for admission will be available from the office of the Model School on payment of Rs. 20/-.

After the completion of admission test the successful candidates will be admitted in the respective classes on payment of one month's tuition fee along with other fees mentioned above. Tuition fees must be deposited within 15th day of every running month to avoid the fine. In case of delayed payment a late fine of Rs. 0.50 will be charged per day.

Hostel Accommodation::

The students from distant localities may stay in the HOSTEL provided by the Education Society. Only the secondary & Higher Secondary students shall get the benefit of staying in the Hostel. Separate hostel for the Boys and the Girls are provided. Hostel Charges are given below:
