Viral pic showing peeled potatoes' packet being sold in the UK has internet pointing its pros and cons.

‘Ready-to-make’ food has become increasingly prevalent in the market. Individuals in need, as well as those merely interested in trying it out, have frequently documented their effectiveness and exceptional flavours in videos. Whether it’s French fries or even simple Dal Chawal, just add some boiling water or oil, and your meal is ready. But, have you heard about pre-peeled potatoes being available in stores? Much like major Indian cities like Mumbai have street vendors selling sprouted Moong/Chana, a picture from a seemingly UK store selling pre-peeled potato packets has surfaced on the internet, sparking a debate among users about its necessity.

A page on ‘X’ called @NoContextBrits shared an image of the packet containing peeled potatoes with a message that read “Carefully peeled, ready to mash or roast for crispy skin." This image was accompanied by a caption that exclaimed, “We’ve reached peak laziness." Soon, the picture went viral, and people began to react to it.

“It will not be long before for another pound, they will serve them loose so you do not have to open the bag," commented one user. “Is it hard for people in the UK to peel potatoes?" questioned another.

However, there were also voices emphasising the practicality of such products for the elderly or those with health issues.

One user shared, “My mum has rheumatoid arthritis this would be perfect for her. Easy to call it laziness when you’re able.” Another user added, “Godsend to people with arthritis tho.”

Furthermore, the comment section revealed that the company also sells mashed potatoes and pre-peeled new potatoes in water, indicating the extent to which such convenience food items have proliferated in the market.

But, as we peel back the layers of convenience brought by advancing technology and innovation, should we really be dishing out criticism, or should we savour the flavour of progress?
