India vs Pakistan 2023 Asia Cup: With the rain halting India innings in Colombo, we take a look at the likely scenarios dictated by the weather.

So as was widely predicted, the rain has arrived in Colombo, disturbing yet another India-Pakistan clash at the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. It started out as a drizzle and in the blink of an eye turned into a heavy downpour with the groundstaff scampering to get the field under covers.

India had made an excellent start after being put in to bat first  by Pakistan in what is their first match of the Super 4 stage. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma scored half-centuries in a century stand before Pakistan hit back with a couple of big blows.

An intriguing phase of play was underway with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli attempting to ride out the nervy phase as dot balls piled up. With India 147/2 in 24.1 overs, rain arrived forcing the players back into the dressing room.

While the hope is for the rain to stop, allowing for the game to resume. However, in the event of a washout, the tournament organisers have recently added a reserve day especially for this clash. Yes, it happened just a couple of days back.

Here’s the scenario:

If rain washes out the play on Sunday: The contest will resume on Monday from where it stopped today (if that is the case).

If rain stops today: If the weather gods relent and allow for the game to resume before the cut-off time, if there’s a major delay, overs will be lost and DLS method will come into play.

What if the rain relents after the cut-off for India’s innings: Well, since India have played over 20 overs in their innings, Pakistan will be given a revised target in certain number of overs based on DLS calculations. It’s being reported that every chance will be given for this contest to be decided tonight itself before bringing reserve day into play.

If both the days are washed out: Well, in that scenario, the teams will share a point apiece. However, then qualifying for the final will become a little more challenging for India. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won their respective opening matches of this round to take two points each while Bangladesh have lost both their matches.
