G20 Summit 2023 Delhi Highlights: As the ‘historic’ G20 Summit came to an end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday handed over the customary gavel of the G20 chair to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, even as Delhi continues to remain under tight security. Today, leaders of the world’s most powerful nations began their day with a visit to Rajghat, where they layed a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi. The third session of the meeting, ‘One Future’, was held before the closing ceremony.
The G20 leaders’ declaration “confirms" Russia’s isolation on the Ukraine crisis and India’s presidency of the bloc did its best to send across a message of unity and peace to the world, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday.
At a media briefing, he also said that the G20 is not a forum for political discussions and that a “vast majority" of countries of the grouping have “condemned" the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As the national capital hosted the G20 Summit over the weekend, the 24×7 helpline of Delhi Traffic Police received 2,500 calls per day, six times the daily average, officials said on Sunday.
“On normal days prior to the G20 Summit, the helpline at the Public Interface Unit (PIU) received an average of about 400 calls per day. During the Summit, the unit received 2,500 calls per day from Thursday to Sunday. A G20 Traffic Virtual Helpdesk was established, which has been visited by more than 1.63 lakh people," the Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) said in a statement. Police further said that the WhatsApp Helpline received 2,000 queries per day, whereas Delhi Traffic Police’s handle on microblogging site X provided clarifications to more than 75 queries during this time.
US President Joe Biden on Sunday said he held “substantial discussions" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ways to strengthen the Indo-US partnership and thanked him for his leadership and hosting the G20 Summit in New Delhi.
Biden told reporters here in the Vietnamese capital that he also raised the importance of respecting human rights with Prime Minister Modi.

The G20 Summit came to an end on Sunday. The grouping of emerging and developed economies adopted the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration through consensus and included African Union as a permanent member of the bloc.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on Sunday said global recovery is slow and uneven and underscored the need to pursue sound policies for financial stability and growth-oriented structural reforms.
Speaking at G20 Leaders’ Summit here, Georgieva said, G20 members must lead by example in delivering on the promises of USD 100 billion per year for climate finance, supported by strengthening Multilateral Development Banks(MDBs).
With the conclusion of the summit, Shah Rukh Khan congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for headlining India’s Presidency.

PM Modi on Sunday said that he had a very good meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and thanked him for “enriching the G20 Summit with his views."
🔺Brazil will formally assume the G20 Presidency on December 1 this year.
🔺The presidency will be transferred on the night of November 30, when the passwords of all domain and sites would be handed over to Brazil.
🔺Post this, Brazil will be responsible for controlling websites, social media platforms and all domains of the G20.

PM Modi on Sunday said that he met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and talked about ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that isolating Russia is “bound to fail," and won’t solve the world’s problems, and that everyone needs to work together.
“We believe that any initiative that isolates Russia is bound to fail. Its success is a very little possibility. We believe that any step that may escalate the tensions in the Black Sea should be avoided…," he said.
“In order to support the global food security, food supply security, we are going to bring together the Food Supply Security Study Group, both Russia, Ukraine, as well as the United Nations, and with our stakeholders coming from the international community, we are going to have continuous talks," he added.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thanked India for a “gracious and very successful" term of presidency. He also thanked PM Modi for his hospitality to the entire Turkish delegation, and spoke about what challenges were addressed in the summit.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Saturday bid farewell to New Delhi, after attending the G20 Summit and thanked the Indian people for such a warm welcome.
“Stronger together. Stronger united…From global food security to international partnerships, it’s been a busy but successful summit," Sunak said on X (formally Twitter).
French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday also expressed the need to regulated Artificial Intelligence (AI), so that it does not effect the democracies of the world.

During his press address, French President Emmanuel Macron said, “We support a deep reform of global governance. Security Council as well as the World Bank and the IMF, they have to reflect today’s reality in terms of demography and economy as well. And then we want to increase the available tools. That’s why we want to replenish the World Bank and France is supporting it so that the emerging countries have a greater role to play.
Further, he also said that it is necessary to regulate artificial intelligence and to make sure it does not affect our democracies.

French President Emmanuel Macron began his press conference by thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressing condolences to Morocco, adding that, resources for Morocco whenever needed are ready.
G20 members condemn the Ukraine-Russia war and it isolates Russia due to the war in Ukraine, Macron said.
He congratulated the African Union for its inclusion in the G20 as a permanent member. “This year we will reach target of 100 billion dollars for climate change in developing countries," Macron added.
He said that what was agreed in the Paris pact has been again agreed upon at the G20 forum.

On the first day of the summit, India’s G20 Presidency saw a major success as Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the launch of the India-Middle East-Europe mega economic corridor. The initiative involves India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, France, Italy, Germany and the US. Meanwhile, the African Union was also accepted as a permanent member of the summit before the G20 adopted a consensus declaration on issues faced by the bloc.
