Virat Kohli gave Indian captain Rohit Sharma a pat on his back appreciating the Hitman's half century against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash

Virat Kohli was full of appreciation for Rohit Sharma as the former India captain gave the ‘Hitman’ a pat on his back following his half-century in the India vs. Pakistan Asia Cup Super 4 clash on Sunday, September 10. After being invited to bat first, the Indian openers Rohit and Shubman attacked Pakistan’s pace bowlers by stitching together a 121-run stand before the Indian captain got dismissed on 56.

While the 36-year-old was visibly unhappy with the dismissal as he made his way back to the pavilion, Virat who was making his way to the centre to join Gill gave a pat on Rohit’s back, appreciating his stellar knock in the crunch fixture.

In the previous clash between the two arch-rivals during the Asia Cup group stage fixture, Rohit and Shubman failed to score big, but they made their intentions clear from the get-go in the Super 4 stage.

Both openers played fearless attacking cricket, nullifying the threat of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.

Gill brought up his half-century as he scored 58 in 52 balls including 10 boundaries, while Rohit smashed 56 in 49 balls comprising of six boundaries and four massive sixes.

The Indian captain enjoyed plenty of big hits against Shadab Khan however the Pakistan all-rounder played a key role in Rohit’s dismissal. Looking to continue his attack, the Indian opener looked to smash another maximum but he was caught by Faheem Ashraf who covered considerable distance to end the Indian captain’s inning on 56.

As Rohit made his way back to the dugout, he received a pat on his back by Virat who appreciated his fellow countryman’s intent.

Courtesy of the start given by Rohit and Shubman, India sailed the 100-run mark with easy but when Rohit departed, the score was at 121, and then in the next over, Gill was also dismissed.

Virat and KL Rahul were looking to rebuild India’s inning as the two set batters departed but the rain gods had other ideas and rain played spoilsport once again, halting the proceedings when the score was 147/2 after 24.1 overs.

Rahul was included in India’s playing XI after Shreyas Iyer suffered a back spams, and was thus left out of the team as a precaution. There’s a reserved day in place, so fans can rest assured that the Super 4 clash will not be washed out like the group stage game was abandoned due to rain.
