Despite the frustrating interruption, Shaheen Afridi’s heartwarming gesture stole the spotlight and captured everyone’s hearts. As play came to a halt, the Pakistani fast bowler decided to extend his congratulations to the newly minted father, Jasprit Bumrah.
Afridi presented a gift to Bumrah’s newborn baby when they crossed paths at the R Premadasa Stadium before returning to their respective team hotels. A video capturing this moment made its way onto the internet where Afridi can be seen holding a red-wrapped gift box, which he handed over to Bumrah. Alongside the gift, Afridi offered his heartfelt congratulations and well wishes for the health and happiness of Bumrah’s newborn baby, leaving fans intrigued about the contents of the gift.

Although this touching gesture received widespread praise on social media, the guessing game among fans continued unabated. Pakistani fans, in their lighthearted banter, shared pictures of rompers resembling the Pakistan Cricket Board’s green jersey, while others humorously speculated whether the gift contained a clock ticking backward. As expected, memes flooded the micro-blogging site ‘X,’ adding another layer of excitement to the already intense IND vs. PAK rivalry.
As for the game itself, heavy rain on Sunday forced the Super Fours match into Reserve Day. At the time of the rain interruption, India had reached 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs. Despite efforts to dry the wet patches on the field by the Sri Lankan ground staff, the play could not resume due to concerns raised by the on-field umpires.
