Sumukhi Suresh is a renowned stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and show host. She started her journey as a stand-up comedian in Bengaluru, where she initially worked at a food testing and certification company. Soon after she realised that it was not her forte, Sumukhi left her full-time job and started her journey to become a stand-up comedian. Sumukhi has gained widespread recognition for her comedic sketches that she not only writes but also performs, both on live shows and social media platforms.

Personal Details and Education

Born on October 18, 1987, Sumukhi Suresh hails from Nagpur, but her maternal roots trace back to Tamil Nadu. She pursued her education at Chennai’s M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, where she graduated with a degree in Food Science Management, Dietetics, and Nutrition.

Career

In 2009, Sumukhi Suresh made a move to Bengaluru and took up a position at the children’s library known as Hippocampus. Her career path then led her to work as a chef, and for a brief period. She was employed at a food laboratory.

During her time at the food laboratory in 2013, Sumukhi joined ‘The Improv’, an improvisational comedy show based in Bengaluru. She actively participated in 100 shows alongside the rest of ‘The Improv’ team, performing in various locations including Bengaluru, Dubai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Sweden. In 2015, she took a significant leap by leaving her full-time job to pursue a career in comedy.

Sumukhi gained recognition through her YouTube series, ‘Behti Naak’. Additionally, she appeared in the mockumentary web series Better Life Foundation, created by Naveen Richard. She further made her mark by creating and starring in the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime Video show ‘Pushpavalli’, which spanned two seasons.

Collaborating with fellow comedian Naveen Richard, she co-wrote the sketch comedy show ‘Go Straight Take Left’. Sumukhi has been involved in creating and acting in various shows across different OTT platforms, including ‘Beauty and the Feast’ for Hotstar, ‘Banake Dikha’ for Zomato, and ‘Lust Stories’ for Netflix. She also served as a host and later a judge on the Amazon Original series ‘Comicstaan’.

Among her notable feature film credits is the 2018 Kannada satirical comedy ‘Humble Politician Nograj’. Recently, she released her stand-up special titled ‘Don’t Tell Amma’ on Amazon Prime Video and ventured into producing ‘Notary’, a short film that has been well-received at festivals.

Sumukhi Suresh expanded her career horizons by transitioning into entrepreneurship. She launched a content platform called Motormouth, catering to writers passionate about pitching stories for movies, web shows, and more.
