The opening pair shared a 121-run stand for the opening wicket but the duo lost wickets in quick succession. KL Rahul, playing in his first competitive game since May 1 after a right thigh injury lay-off, was splendid in his timing of pulling Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf over mid-wicket for boundaries. He and Virat Kohli were motoring at eight and 17 respectively before rain arrived to stop the proceedings for the day. Earlier, India’s Asia Cup opener against Pakistan was called off due to rain.

Shaheen and Shadab were the only wicket-takers for Pakistan on Sunday, meanwhile, Naseem Shah was the most impressive one as he troubled Rohit Sharma a lot in his first spell. However, Rohit fought well in that phase and unleashed himself on the Pakistan bowlers after getting set.
On the other side, Shubman Gill started strong and scored boundaries at regular intervals to put pressure on the Pakistan bowlers including Shaheen. Shubman slammed Shaheen for six boundaries in his first spell as Babar Azam had to bring early change in the attack. Gill shaped up for a drive through the cover but realised that the ball was a slower leg-cutter and all he could do was to prod the ball to Salman Agha.
Rahul, who came in for Shreyas Iyer suffering from back spasm, looked good during his brief stay, in the company of Kohli.
The activation of Reserve Day also means that India will be playing on three consecutive days, with their next game against Sri Lanka on September 12.
Sunday’s, Brief scores: India 147/2 in 24.1 overs (Shubman Gill 58, Rohit Sharma 56; Shaheen Shah Afridi 1-37, Shadab Khan 1-45) against Pakistan.
