Burkina Faso Troops In Niger As US Tries To Stay “As Long As Possible”, ECOWAS Sanctions Spark Fury

Several military units from Burkina Faso's Armed Forces have arrived in the coup-hit Niger, Sky News Arabia reported. The move comes a week after Burkina Faso junta on August 31 approved a bill to send the country's forces to Niger to prevent terrorism. However, it was not clear how many military personnel were deployed in the West African nation.The move by Burkina Faso is apparently in reaction to the threat by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to restore democracy in Niger. ECOWAS has imposed harsh sanctions on Niger and demanded the rebels release Bazoum, threatening to use force if they did not do so. The West African bloc had threatened to use "force" to reinstate the Niger’s deposed President Mohamed Bazoum.
